Used e-books may continue to be resold

A court in Amsterdam has come to a decision in a case between second-hand e-books plattform “Tom Kabinet” and the Dutch publisher’s union. Used e-books may continue to be resold. However, there are some restrictions.

E-book-reseller have to make sure that the e-books they offer originate from legal sources. Judges are afraid that online marketplaces such as “Tom Kabinet” could be misused for money laundering. “Tom Kabinet” was not able to fully state where their e-books came from. The publisher’s union had therefore accused Tom Kabinet of dealing with e-books from illegal sources.
